As a recent immigrant to Australia, it was with much trepidation that I set out on a quest to find a business earlier this year. One hears so many stories of unscrupulous and un-professional agents where new immigrants end up losing their life savings.
After a couple of, let’s say unsuccessful, attempts to acquire a business I ended up looking at the business I currently own. It was being sold by Rod Russell of Savvy Business Brokers and what made me even more nervous was that it was a franchise and that was a road I had always sworn not to tread.
Rod was the consummate professional, understanding where I was coming from, taking all my fears and put them to rest. He put all the facts on the table, both pros and con’s. He was in constant communication with me and held my hand through the entire process. When I needed information or a sympathetic ear to bounce ideas and concerns off, he was there.
Because the sellers were based in Adelaide and were relatively new to the franchise market there were a number of
difficulties, which Rod, with his professional skill and experience, overcame, never losing his focus to achieve a win/win situation for all parties involved.
Once the sale process had progressed to where I, the buyer, and the seller, were communicating directly, Rod still kept in constant communication ( an area where other Business Brokers that I had dealt with seemed to fail regularly) to ensure the whole process flowed smoothly. This communication continued even once the sale was completed.
Too many brokers, Business or otherwise, forget that this year’s buyer could be next year’s seller. Nigel Skinner is in the wrong profession. He could be one or more of social worker, accountant, psychiatrist, financial advisor, lawyer and hand-holder. Oh yes and business broker. He is probably only qualified as a business broker but I am sure he holds honorary qualifications in all the others.
We had tried to sell our business ourselves without success and after many frustrating months we decided to call in the experts. Meeting Nigel gave us new hope and confidence that our business would sell and that we had found the right man for the job.
